YOU MAY SAY WE’RE DREAMERS BUT…(2025), Melbourne, Australia
YOU MAY SAY WE’RE DREAMERS BUT… is a photographic series that weaves together images from a brief stay in Melbourne in 2016 and return visits in 2023 and 2024. Rooted in a personal migration story, it reflects on the quiet tension between imagined futures and lived realities—when dreams drift away from what unfolds.
In 2016, two years after Thailand’s political coup, I moved to Melbourne seeking growth and a different life. I arrived with hope, driven by idealism—but reality fell short. After six months, I returned to Thailand, leaving behind a small set of photographs and unresolved feelings.
Years later, I returned to Melbourne under new circumstances. The city, both familiar and changed, stirred memories and invited reflection—on time, distance, and the emotional imprint of leaving and returning.
This series pairs archival images from 2016 with new photographs from 2023–2024, creating a visual dialogue across time. It traces shifting perceptions, explores the emotional landscape of migration, and asks what it means to belong—or not.
